How to Show Certainty with Sentence-Final 的 (de)
Besides its structural jobs, 的 (de) can sit at the very end of a sentence to mark certainty: the speaker is sure, reassuring, or making a promise. Statement + 的. 他会好的 (“he'll get better, trust me”), 你可以的 (“you can do this”), 她一定会来的 (“she'll definitely come”). It loves the verb 会, giving the 会…的 frame for a confident prediction.
Why this trips learners up
You already know 的 (de) as a structural particle, the one that links 我的书 (“my book”) or 漂亮的花 (“pretty flowers”). It has another, quite separate job: dropped at the very end of a sentence, 的 marks certainty. The speaker is saying “I'm sure of this,” often to reassure or to promise. The frame is just Statement + 的: 他会好的 (“he'll be fine, trust me”), 你可以的 (“you can do it”), 我不会骗你的 (“I won't lie to you, I promise”).
This 的 most often rides the verb 会 (huì), and frequently 一定会 (yídìng huì) for extra conviction: 会 + … + 的 is the standard frame for a confident prediction about what will happen. 她一定会来的 (“she'll definitely come”), 你们会成功的 (“you'll succeed”), 这个问题我们会解决的 (“we'll sort this out”). The 会 looks to the future; the 的 stamps it with the speaker's certainty.
It doesn't have to be about the future. 的 can also press a firm fact, especially with 过: 这个地方我们来过的 (“we've definitely been here before”), 这件事我提醒过你的 (“I did remind you about this”). Here 的 adds a “believe me, it's so” to something you're certain of.
Two things to watch. First, the certainty 的 sits at the end of the whole statement, never between 会 and the verb: 你会成功的, not 你会的成功. Second, because it asserts confidence, it clashes with hedges like 可能 or 也许, and it is not interchangeable with sentence-final 了: 会好的 reassures about what will be, while 好了 reports a change that has happened. (You can even meet both 的 in one sentence: 你的中文会越来越好的, where the first 的 is possessive and the last one is this certainty 的.)

Common mistakes
Why it happens: The certainty 的 closes the whole statement; it never sits between 会 and the verb. “You'll definitely succeed” is 你一定会成功的, not 你一定会的成功. (That mid-sentence slot belongs to the structural 的.)
Why it happens: 的 asserts that you're sure, so it clashes with hedges like 可能 / 也许 (“maybe”). If you're confident, drop the hedge: 他一定会赢的. If you really mean “maybe,” drop the 的: 他可能会赢.
Why it happens: 会…的 reassures about what will be; 了 reports a change that has happened. “Everything will be fine” is 一切都会好的, not 一切都会好了 (which would mean it has already turned out fine). Look ahead with 的, mark a change with 了.
Compare & contrast
| 会…的: confident about what will be | …了: a change that has happened | The difference |
|---|---|---|
| 他会好的tā huì hǎo de | 他好了tā hǎo le | 他会好的 looks ahead: “he'll get better” (you're reassuring, it hasn't happened yet). 他好了 reports the change: “he's better now” (it already happened). 的 is certainty about the future; 了 marks what has become. |
| 你会瘦的nǐ huì shòu de | 你瘦了nǐ shòu le | 你会瘦的 is “you'll slim down, don't worry” (a confident prediction). 你瘦了 is “you've lost weight” (a change that already shows). Same adjective, opposite time frame. |
Try it yourself
Say “You'll definitely succeed.” End with 的 to make it a confident reassurance.
